When I was in high school, I had a teacher who shared stories with his students. Jim Owens, or Owens as everyone called him, taught 12th grade Humanities and this class was the one that you heard rumors about for the previous three years of high school. Your senior friends wouldn't tell you exactly what the class was like, but they made it clear: Owens is like no other teacher you've ever had.
The legend turned out to be true.
Owens teaches through stories. He told stories from his own life and the lives of others. As a master storyteller, he can stretch a story out for weeks and still students would be on the edges of their seats to hear the next chapter. It was a great honor, then, when I asked to be the first to tape one of his stories in its entirety and he allowed me to do so. I recorded his story Cool Blue, about his days on the sea.
So kick back and enjoy all four chapters of Cool Blue.
